Pirates

I woke up this am to find a pirate site with Heart Journey available to download.

I really don't understand why pirates do this to struggling authors (and, baby, if I'da had the dough for RWA I woulda been there to pick up my Daphne). It eludes me. If you like my work, please buy it, because otherwise I will need to find a dayjob to support cats and myself. If I find a dayjob, I will be writing much less.

Bitterly shaking head...and I DO pass these links onto my editors in the hopes that their legal department shuts them down, but I'm pretty sure that doesn't happen.

Pay you get paid for your work this year.

That's terrible Robin. Do you have the e-rights to your books. If so check out Amazon's kindle and Smashwords. I can send you information on both. Let me know.

No, my publishers have the e-rights, and I usually forward my editor's assistant and editor links to the pirates. I believe they send on to the legal department, but this week both are at RWA.

I contacted the site, but it's always a struggle to reach the right person.

I saw the title and got a little excited but then read your entry. Wrong pirates. Very disappointing and I hope these pirates end up with the karma version of flat tires!

Robin,

I bought Heart's Blood by Gail Dayton, (would have been a great title for your series) based on a review you gave it.

How do these reviews work, do you 'have' to come up with something nice to say, do you review only the books you like, or do they cut and use bits and pieces for the most slanted review once you've sent your opinion back?

Thanks, folks. E-pirates are a fact of life. It just boggles my mind that people don't understand that I like to get paid for my work. I thought EVERYONE understood they, too, like to get paid for their work. And if they don't think it's work, I'd like to see them do, say, three chapters and an outline for a book in a week...

Rin, sorry I haven't done a pirate book. I know the fascination. Captain Blood was one of my fav reads as a child. Right now, in the Heart Books and the Luna books, I don't foresee a pirate story from me...and I don't do the game...

Tannun, I don't recall giving a quote for Heart's Blood, since I've bought the book but haven't read it yet, but I like Gail, and her work. I did give a quote, I believe, for Eternal Rose. I am sorry if you didn't care for the story. Yes, if I give a quote, and don't say "you must use it exactly as worded" quotes can be cut as necessary. Usually (check the beginning of the Heart books, or the back cover) it will say something like "praise for the work of... or the series....or for Heart Thief..." etc.

Again, I'm sorry if you didn't like Gail's story. I know she's writing steampunk now, which definitely tends to be darker.

I have been reading a little darker, too. I really like Iona Andrews' books and they are not what anyone would call "light."

I'm sorry if you felt that I disappointed you in any way.

Sooo sorry about the pirates! I have all of your books in print copies, and have recently bought most of the Heart series for my Kindle too!

The only good thing about pirate sites doing this is that if someone picks up the book there and enjoys it at this point in the series, they will want the previous books... and looking around I'm seeing some of yours out there but not a lot.

Well, I seem to see pirates everywhere, which is disinheartening because I really need everything I can get to keep on writing.
